Mar. 24—Chef Mik German, who has bounced around a bit in the past few years, between Alary’s and the Eagan restaurant group that includes Burgers and Bottles, Volstead House and Mean Miner’s Tacos, finally has a kitchen of his own.
German will be taking over the kitchen at the St. Paul Park American Legion. He’s calling it 328 Grill at the Legion, and it’ll serve from-scratch bar fare.
“For a couple of years, I’ve said I need to do my own thing,” German said. “Working for someone else is hard on me. I don’t feel like I get as much out of it as I put in.”
German said he found out about the opportunity from a friend and jumped at the chance to walk into a working kitchen and serve a built-in customer base.
The menu includes an entire stable of burgers, bar-food apps — including wings dry-rubbed with German’s signature 14 Spice spice mix — and a few other sandwiches and salads.
German will also sell retail versions of that spice mix out of the Legion.
“Our tagline is ‘Serving great food to those who served,’ and that’s going to be a big part of what we do,” German said.
The bar area of the restaurant seats about 100, and there’s overflow/banquet space that German will also service.
They’re planning to launch April 1, and there will be a grand opening celebration April 9-10.
