Four Tri-Valley chefs will go head to head — virtually, from their kitchens — on Oct. 24 to raise money for the Culinary Angels.
The nonprofit is devoted to providing nutrient-rich meals to local residents with serious health issues. According to the group, about 95 percent of the recipients are going through cancer treatment.
“Now You’re Cooking with Culinary Angels,” with emcee Mel McKay of KKIQ, will feature chef Claudia Castillo Holley of the Angels kitchen, chef Francis X. Hogan of Sabio on Main in Pleasanton, chef Michaela Ketchum of Pennyweight Craft Brewing in Livermore and Mona Sethi of Pans on Fire in Pleasanton.
Who will turn locally grown organic produce into the best dish? You can join on Zoom to watch the 6:30 p.m. competition, listen to chef interviews by Juliette Goodrich of KPIX 5 and participate in the raffle. Tickets are $30 each or $50 for a pair.
Judging the meals will be nutritionist April Vaughn Shabazz, First Street Wine Co. manager Sam Kraft and Sblend Sblendorio of Hoge-Fenton.
Culinary Angels was founded in 2016 by Lisa McNaney, a woman whose family has been hit hard by cancer diagnoses. According to the group’s website, Fertile Groundworks and Sunflower Hill supply the majority of the produce for the meals, and the First Presbyterian Church Livermore allows the nonprofit to use their industrial kitchen.
To date, the all-volunteer group has served more than 4,450 meals to residents and their caregivers.
